Interview With Liam Blake
IDEALISTIC TROUBADOUR MIXING A BITTERSWEET MEDICINE
Liam Blake has been writing songs in the acoustic folk tradition since he was 17. At the core of his music is a deep sense of romance; not through sentiment, but rather as articulate, intelligent, bittersweet story-telling. His narrative is the landscape of the troubadour – heartbreaking, idealistic and lush – and he relays a journey through life for everyone to enjoy. He is a young dreamer and an awesome natural talent with a voice that will melt even the iciest heart. Liam has always been drawn to the West Coast singer-songwriters of the 1970s. If he’d been born several decades earlier and on a different continent he would probably be hanging out in Laurel Canyon right now with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Joni Mitchell. His other, more contemporary musical influences are an immense sweep from Gerschwin to Goldfrapp.
Liam’s debut LP (You And Other Stories) will be released on 18 July to coincide with a national tour and festival gigs throughout the summer. Check out these photos he’s taken for us and download Sinners & Saints here for nowt. It’s easily the best thing you’ll do this hour.
