Ikons are six musicians and one video artist. They live in Gothenburg. The band’s members have fluctuated over the years, but Ikons always remain large, like a cultish tangle of late-80s indie, Mancunian post-punk and barmy beats. Ikons make music that is intended to be both a cosmic odyssey and transcendental adventure for all who listen. Live, the band perform against a backdrop of stunning visuals which emphasise the repetitive and hypnotic elements of the music.
Earlier this summer they released their second album – Life Rhythms – on Swedish label Service (Jens Lekman, The Whitest Boy Alive). You can chew off a chunk to taste by downloading Polaroid Cocaine here. It’s a sax-driven shoegaze number. Oh, and do check out the video for Sister below. It features sky-diving nuns.
