Dennis Hopper Choppers self-released 2008 debut LP (Chop) saw Ben Nicholls representing as a one-man-band, simultaneously playing guitar, bass drum, high hat, bass pedals, vox-organ and a 1969 Fender Dual Showman amplifier originally designed for Dick Dale. No longer riding solo, Bens’ second LP (Be Ready) sees him enlisting a host of musicians, including full-time members Nat Woodcock and John Greswell. The twelve track album was produced by Ben Hillier (Depeche Mode, Blur), who signed up after hearing dictaphone demos.
To write the songs that would become Be Ready, Ben holed up in a house in the desert just outside Tabernas (Spain). There, on a previous visit, a family member told Ben the story of a friend of hers who had been murdered by her own son, leaving an empty house whose ownership was in limbo. It was in this house that Be Ready took shape, and it was from the quiet of this desert hideout that Ben’s vision for something larger than his one-man-band, evolved.
Anyway, check out these rather atmospheric snaps Ben has taken for us, download Good To Me here for the princely sum of nada, and check out the video for All Could Come True below.
